Distribution Relationship Manager

Reports To: Director of Customer Care

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary: $60k - $70k +bonus

Summary: The Distribution Relationship Manager will be responsible for generating sales by building and maintaining relationships with industrial labware customers and distributors. As well as, product management, marketing and social media support, and ecommerce.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Serves customers by selling products and meeting customer needs

• Services existing accounts, obtains orders, and establishes new accounts by planning and organizing daily work schedule to call on existing or potential customers

• Meets monthly individual sales goals and contributes to the overall team sales goals

• Communicates with customers through phone calls, emails and in person visits (at customer and at trade shows)

• Adjusts content of sales presentations by studying needs of customers and potential customers

• Works with marketing to build promotions around key product lines

• Resolves customer complaints by investigating problems, developing solutions, preparing reports, and making recommendations to management

• Monitors competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new products, delivery schedules, and merchandising techniques

• Keeps management informed by submitting activity and results reports, such as daily call reports, weekly work plans, and monthly and annual territory analyses

• Provides historical records by maintaining records on area and customer sales

• Social media account support for B2B and B2C science businesses

• Generating content for our B2B and B2C businesses. For example: landing pages for specific demographics, recommended material lists for various classes or grade levels, blog articles related to current events or pedagogy, etc.

• Product line management of science products, including merchandizing products, development of keywords, prioritizing content creation and product data updating

• Understanding and utilizing our ecommerce platforms on the B2B and B2C businesses, including: Shopify, Amazon, Walmart, eBay, etc.

Qualifications

• Degree in business or science, science experience

• Experience in customer service or sales

• Knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM

• Excel

• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

• Must be comfortable talking with people on customer visits and trade shows

Environmental Working Conditions & Physical Effort: Typically works in an office with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.

• Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.

• A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis.

• Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 25 lbs.

• Will be required to assist in other areas from time to time, including but not limited to order fulfillment, packing and shipping.

E-commerce & Merchandising Manager, Science

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Compensation: $22 - $30/hour

Job Overview:

We're an innovative e-commerce company, specializing in scientific products. Our mission is to make scientific tools and resources more accessible through an effective online shopping experience. We are seeking an E-commerce Merchandiser Manager with a solid science background and a sharp focus on merchandising and marketing to join our team.

In this role, you’ll manage the e-commerce and marketing aspects of our product launches and updates. Your scientific expertise will be critical in communicating the unique benefits of our products, while your skills in project management will ensure that our merchandising strategies are executed effectively and efficiently.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Project Management for Product Launches and Updates: Coordinate with product owners and marketing teams to ensure that all product launches and updates are executed according to plan. This involves scheduling, overseeing content creation, and ensuring timely execution.
  • Content Creation and Optimization: Develop SEO-optimized product titles, detailed descriptions, bullet points, and keywords for platforms like Amazon, Shopify, eBay, and Walmart. Your goal will be to maximize visibility and appeal to target audiences.
  • Product Merchandising: Strategically merchandise products, ensuring they are presented in a way that enhances visibility and sales potential. This includes managing photography, overseeing the creation of visual assets, and ensuring all listings are up to standard.
  • Categorization and Listing: Accurately categorize products on various platforms, maintaining alignment with internal and external category standards. Manage listings to ensure consistency across all channels.
  • Pricing Strategy: Develop and implement competitive pricing strategies based on market research and internal goals. Monitor and adjust prices as needed to stay competitive.
  • Visual Merchandising and Photography: Coordinate with photographers or take direct responsibility for capturing product images that accurately represent and enhance the products. Include lifestyle images where necessary to boost engagement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain regular communication with internal stakeholders and external contractors to ensure best practices in e-commerce and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Data Management and Accuracy: Oversee the maintenance and accuracy of Product Information Management (PIM) data, ensuring all product information is current and correctly integrated across platforms.

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field
  • Proven experience in e-commerce merchandising and project management
  • Strong ability to create compelling, clear, and effective written content for various online platforms
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with multi-seller e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Shopify, eBay, and Walmart.
  • Experience in digital photography and/or graphic design.
  • Experience with social media, email marketing, and/or SMS marketing.
  • Prior involvement in online marketing or branding projects.

Ideal Candidate:

Director/VP of Business Development & Customer Relations

Job Overview:

A driven and strategic Sales Executive, with a clear vision to elevate our company’s sales revenue and to construct a robust sales infrastructure aimed at achieving our goal of $100 million in revenue. This role is crucial in shaping our future growth and requires a blend of strategic thinking, leadership skills, and sales expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Execution, Sales & Development:

  • Embody a growth mindset and continuously seek out ways to improve and develop both professionally and personally
  • Develop and execute a sales strategy that aligns with the company's goals and objectives. 
  • Designing and implementing creative pricing strategies that balance revenue goals with customer needs.
  • Define and implement sales processes and best practices to ensure consistent and predictable performance
  • Developing and maintaining a deep understanding of the market and competitive landscape.
  • Creating an atmosphere of excitement and enthusiasm around the company's product or service, both internally and externally.
  • Representing the company's values and mission in all interactions, and using those values to guide decision-making and strategy.
  • Challenging the status quo and continually pushing for new and better ways to sell the company's product or service. 
  • Mastering CRM & Funnel Management. You'll have the reins of our customer relationship management system, ensuring a smooth, effective sales funnel that drives results.
  • Conducting Monthly Forecasting. Your analytical prowess will be key in predicting monthly sales trends, helping us stay ahead of the curve and make informed strategic decisions.
  • Engaging with Trade Organizations & Government Lobbying. We need a savvy communicator who can actively participate in trade organizations and advocate for our interests in government lobbying efforts.
  • Budget Management Expertise. As a financial steward, you'll oversee and manage our budget, ensuring we're not just meeting, but exceeding our financial goals.
  • Other duties as assigned

Customers:

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless customer experience, from initial contact through to post-sale support.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers and partners
  • Collaborating with the product team to provide feedback on product features and enhancements that will improve the company's competitive position.
  • Representing the company at industry events, conferences, and trade shows.
  • Drive revenue growth by closing deals with high-value customers

Collaboration & Team:

  • Collaborate with marketing and product teams to ensure alignment on market strategy. Working closely with the marketing team to develop innovative campaigns and tactics that differentiate the company in a crowded market. 
  • Participating in regular meetings with senior leadership to provide updates on sales performance and market trends.

What success in this role looks like:

1st 180 Days:

  • Drive B2C initiatives: actively hunt deals and start nurturing customer relationships. Your goal is to feed and expand our CRM with valuable leads.
  • Achieve $250K in sales: hit the ground running with a clear target of generating $250,000 in sales.
  • Create a hiring strategy for hiring a representative: Develop a strategic approach to build a top-notch sales team.
  • Hire at least one sales representative: onboard at least one, if not more, sales representatives to strengthen our team.
  • Funding through team growth: the new reps will be funded by the success and growth of the team.
  • Lead the B2C customer support team: take charge of the B2C customer support team, ensuring exceptional service delivery.

2nd 180 Days

  • Expand the sales team: continue to grow your team to at least 2-3 representatives, with a collective goal of approaching $1 million in sales.
  • Manage the B2B team: take over the leadership of the B2B team, bringing your expertise to this crucial segment.
  • Develop a B2B growth strategy: lay the groundwork for a robust B2B growth strategy, ensuring long-term success.

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • 7+ years of sales experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, exceeding sales targets and driving revenue growth.
  • Strong leadership skills, motivating and inspiring team members while developing effective sales strategies.
  • Strategic thinker, analyzing complex data, identifying trends, and developing strategies to achieve objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, across all levels of stakeholders.
