Time is the Ultimate Currency

Time is the Ultimate Currency
Benjamin Franklin famously wrote, “Time is Money.” If I may be so bold, I said, “Time is the Ultimate Currency” long before Elon Musk echoed the sentiment in 2021!

In my mind, time equates to life, making it the most precious gift we have as humans. Where you spend your time is the most critical and constant decision you must make.

When I sacrifice other things to prioritize my kids and family, it often creates anxiety, but I never regret it. Building the mental muscles to suppress the anxiety of not always producing is a skill I work on daily (I see this struggle in many of my YPO friends as well). As a bootstrapping, independent entrepreneur, the drive to produce for security is strong.

I like to give employees a nice Swiss watch on their five-year anniversary with the company, recognizing that I appreciate them and the choice they make to spend their time with us at Eisco/Enalas.

In reflecting on time, here are a few things I’ve found to be major time-wasters:
- Social media (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook) – it’s addictive brain rot.
- Not taking risks due to fear.
- Overthinking instead of simply doing my best at something new.

I’ve also been reflecting on our eNPS scores. While most are good, there were a few 1s (indicating someone would absolutely not recommend Eisco/Enalas as a place to work). If someone feels this way, I believe they are truly wasting their time. It’s better to have an honest, albeit difficult, conversation with their manager about whether that score can improve, or if it would be best for them to explore new opportunities. While this might be unconventional thinking, I believe that if we’re not a good fit for an employee, we should support them in finding a path that suits them better.

Recently, I went on an adventure with my mom, Zach, and Carly. The best moments weren’t about doing things, but simply sitting together, soaking in our surroundings, chatting, joking, reading, and sometimes just being silent together. These are memories I will never forget – moments that nourished my soul.

I hope you make the most of your time and feel good about how you choose to spend it!
